About the Course
Get your young people sewing with this 2-day workshop for 11-14 year olds! Over two days in the school break, young people will learn to use a sewing machine, follow a simple pattern and use decorative techniques like applique and embroidery. Everyone will get the same basic pattern, but be free to decorate their skull however they like. They’ll finish the class with their own Mexican-inspired Spooky Skull Cushion - perfect to celebrate the Day of the Dead, or just brighten up a bedroom!
Who’s it for?
The class is aimed at 11 - 14 year olds. No prior experience of sewing is necessary, but an interest in arts and crafts is essential!
A note about behaviour: please be aware that we’ll be using sewing machines, sharp tools and hot irons. Your child will be shown how to use all this equipment safely, but they also need to be sensible and trustworthy to keep everyone safe.
What You’ll Learn
Sewing machine skills: Straight stitch, zigzag stitch and precision sewing.
Use a simple sewing pattern
Applique

Embellishments (buttons, gems etc)

TERMS AND CONDITIONS
1. Booking & PaymentFull payment is required at the time of booking to secure your spot.
Spaces are limited and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
2. Cancellations & Refunds
Cancellations made more than 14 days before the workshop date will receive a full refund.
No refunds will be issued for cancellations made less than 14 days before the workshop.
In the unlikely event that the workshop is cancelled by the organiser, a full refund will be issued, or the option to reschedule will be offered.
3. Attendance
No-shows are not eligible for a refund or reschedule.
4. Materials & Equipment
For Children’s Classes, tools and equipment are provided by Shetland Stitch Club.
Equipment must be treated with care, and as instructed. Participants may be liable for damage caused by misuse. You may bring your own sewing equipment if you prefer.
5. Health & Safety
Please inform us of any allergies or medical conditions we should be aware of.
Participants will be given a short demonstration, including Health and Safety information, before being allowed to use the tools and equipment. Participants agree to use the machinery safely, and as per the demonstration. Shetland Stitch Club is not liable for any injury or harm incurred during the event.
6. Photography & Social Media
Photos may be taken during the workshop for promotional purposes. Please inform us if you prefer not to be photographed.
7. Accessibility & Special Needs
We aim to make our workshops inclusive. If you have specific accessibility needs, please contact us in advance so we can accommodate you.
8. Age Policy
This workshop is suitable for young people aged 11 - 14, although slightly older or younger children are welcome if they are keen.
